Paintball Explosion occupies the grounds of the old Santa's Village amusement park in East Dundee, about 40 minutes from Chicago, and leans hard into the theming: fields built as movie-quality sets modelled on the shooters people actually play. There are themed outdoor fields plus indoor play, so weather is not a factor, along with a large indoor laser tag arena, airsoft, low-impact paintball, and a bar and grill on site. Paved parking, heating and air conditioning, and real plumbing.

Before you go
Call ahead. Walk-on hours, rental availability and minimum ages move around by season, and plenty of fields only open midweek for booked groups. If it's your first time, ask whether they run low-impact paint — it changes the experience a lot for younger players.
Budget roughly $35–60 for entry, rental gear and a starter bag of paint at most US fields, with extra paint sold on site. Group and birthday packages usually work out cheaper per head. Minimum age is typically 10, dropping to about 8 where a field runs low-impact paint. Wear long sleeves, long trousers and closed-toe shoes.
