Paintball is Safe
When Done Right

With roughly 1.1 injuries per 10,000 participants a year at organized fields, paintball is one of the safer action sports — and the vast majority of injuries happen in unsupervised backyard play, not at staffed fields. These six rules keep it that way.

Wear an ASTM-Approved Paintball Mask

Only a mask rated to the ASTM F1776 paintball standard is safe — it must stay on at all times in active play zones. Airsoft masks and shooting glasses are NOT paintball-approved and will not stop a paintball. A paintball carries far more energy than an airsoft BB and can cause permanent eye injury through inadequate eyewear. Never remove your mask on the field — not to wipe sweat, not to look around. Absolute and non-negotiable.

Barrel Bag in Safe Zones

Cap your marker with a barrel plug or bag whenever you're not on the field. Even with the safety engaged — always cap the barrel. No exceptions, ever.

Respect the Velocity Limit

Markers must be chronographed under 280–300 fps depending on field rules. Higher velocities are the primary cause of paintball injuries. Always verify before you play.

Never Blind Fire

Always see where you are shooting before you fire. Shooting blindly around bunkers risks hitting players at dangerously close range or in restricted areas.

Call Yourself Out Honestly

When you're hit and marked, raise your hand immediately and walk out. The game works on the honor system — cheating invites additional shots and ruins the experience for everyone.

Always Follow Referees

Field referees are there for your safety and the game's integrity. Follow their instructions instantly and without question. When they call "cease fire" — stop immediately.
