EMR started as a paintball event facility in 1996 and is still family run, spread over 122 acres of northeast Pennsylvania. Twenty fields include a three-storey castle of around 35,000 square feet and a two-storey five-acre town, alongside speedball and plain wooded fields. It is best known for its big games, Castle Conquest and Western Wars among them, which can run to well over a thousand players. Unusually for a paintball park, you can stay the night: 35 bunkhouses and close to a hundred campsites.

Before you go
Call ahead. Walk-on hours, rental availability and minimum ages move around by season, and plenty of fields only open midweek for booked groups. If it's your first time, ask whether they run low-impact paint — it changes the experience a lot for younger players.
Budget roughly $35–60 for entry, rental gear and a starter bag of paint at most US fields, with extra paint sold on site. Group and birthday packages usually work out cheaper per head. Minimum age is typically 10, dropping to about 8 where a field runs low-impact paint. Wear long sleeves, long trousers and closed-toe shoes.
