Badlandz has been operating since 1996 and is the closest field to Chicago, roughly half an hour from the Loop. Depending on how the site is configured it runs more than twenty separate maps, enough to host a big game, a tournament and private groups at the same time. Two things set it apart: walk-ons may bring their own paint rather than buying on site, and open play is separated by skill level, so beginners are not lined up against regulars.

Before you go
Call ahead. Walk-on hours, rental availability and minimum ages move around by season, and plenty of fields only open midweek for booked groups. If it's your first time, ask whether they run low-impact paint — it changes the experience a lot for younger players.
Budget roughly $35–60 for entry, rental gear and a starter bag of paint at most US fields, with extra paint sold on site. Group and birthday packages usually work out cheaper per head. Minimum age is typically 10, dropping to about 8 where a field runs low-impact paint. Wear long sleeves, long trousers and closed-toe shoes.
